The Research Institute is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing research initiatives, ensuring alignment with police institutional missions, national priorities, and global standards. It manages the entire research lifecycle from project development, funding acquisition, and ethical compliance to intellectual property protection and academic dissemination. Key functions include designing research policies, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations, securing external funding, and strengthening research capacity. The institute identifies priority/thematic research areas such as crime prevention, forensic science, police administration, health science in policing, gender studies, and community based research, while also organizing academic conferences and publishing research reports. Additionally, it publishes the Ethiopian Journal of Police Studies (EJPoS), an online journal dedicated to advancing policing research. Through strategic oversight and stakeholder engagement, the institute enhances evidence based policing and contributes to national and global law enforcement knowledge.
