The Cadet School, originally established in 1939 as the Abadina Police College, is one of Ethiopia’s most prestigious schools for training police officers. Over the years, it has evolved from offering one-year certificate programs to providing diploma and degree-level education, playing a crucial role in strengthening both federal and regional police forces. Under the Ethiopian Police University’s Academic Vice President, the school now operates with three specialized departments Post-Graduate Diploma, Certificate, and Undergraduate Education alongside an administrative office. Beyond domestic training, it fosters regional collaboration by educating officers from neighboring countries such as South Sudan, Somaliland, and Somalia. Led by a Director, the school remains committed to developing a professional, knowledge based police force capable of meeting modern security challenges.
The Cadet School’s legacy extends far beyond academics, with its graduates assuming key leadership roles in law enforcement and regional organizations. Many alumni serve as Commissioner Generals of police, while others hold influential positions in institutions like the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), contributing to regional peace and security. This enduring impact underscores the school’s dedication to excellence, ethics, and service, reinforcing its role in shaping policing standards not only in Ethiopia but across East Africa. Through its structured programs and long-standing tradition, the Cadet School continues to be a cornerstone of leadership development in law enforcement.
